Hollywood.com has published a list of likely contenders whose excellent performances just might put Oscar gold in their hands next February. Here's what they had to say about Christian ... (Thanks to Jojo for the link!)

Christian Bale, The Machinist

Speaking of changing appearances, this year the award for most drastically altered goes to Bale, who shed upwards of 60 pounds from his six-foot-two frame and dropped to a ghastly 120 pounds for his role as a sleep-deprived, mentally disturbed factory worker in The Machinist. Now, everyone knows when you so totally change your appearance to play a part, you're almost guaranteed an Oscar nomination. Two recent cases in point: Charlize Theron, who gained weight and plucked her eyebrows in Monster and Nicole Kidman donning an ugly prosthetic nose in The Hours. No one may actually see this little indie film, but if distributor Paramount Classics send out those screeners, the Academy members should take notice.

German release date of THE MACHINIST is now November 11, 2004

Brad Anderson's thriller/drama "The Machinist" awoke on three screens, taking in $64,661 for an eye-wide $21,554 per screen tally. The film, according to a Paramount Classics spokesperson, did "huge" numbers at the Angelika in downtown Manhattan and had "very strong" showings in Los Angeles. The feature was Anderson's strongest debut, and also one of the specialty distributor's largest openings as well. The spokesperson added that the film had strong exit polls, and the company will add "a few markets each weekend" in the near term. Paramount Classics also plans to launch an awards campaign for Christian Bale.

EA to publish Batman Begins game

Electronic Arts will publish a multiplatform game based on the Batman Begins movie, the publisher revealed this week. PS2, Xbox and GameCube incarnations will be developed by Eurocom, while Vicarious Visions will handle the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable versions. All of them should be out alongside the film in summer 2005.

Although most people's memory of Batman on the silver screen has probably been long since tainted by the awful Batman & Robin, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are hoping that their new approach will wash away past failings. This time the film's based around a story that draws on the Batman: Year One comic, with Memento director Christopher Nolan at the helm and Christian Bale in that iconic - and thankfully nipple-free - suit.

"Batman Begins is the darker depiction of Batman that we've all been waiting for, and we are teaming with EA to bring players an edgy action game that captures this tale," says Jason Hall, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. According to reports, WBIE will be taking a hands-on role in the development and production process, but EA will publish the game on its own.

Batman Begins Sequel Buzz

Rumors about the Dark Knight's future - by Stax

October 04, 2004 - Batman-on-Film reports that, while not officially signed for it, director Christopher Nolan will helm the sequel to Batman Begins. The site adds that screenwriter David Goyer will "most likely be involved" as well. As for the cast, "Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman are set to return. Morgan Freeman will probably be back as Lucius Fox."

"The sequel will probably not pick up right after the events of Begins. A bit of time may have passed between the events of Begins and the sequel," claims BoF.

And which villain may appear in the sequel? Batman-on-Film suggests that it may not be The Joker, as the rumor mill has oft-suggested, but rather another "one that we saw in the previous Burton/Schumacher series."

Finally, comic book writer Denny O'Neil will write the novelization of Batman Begins, according to the latest issue of SFX Magazine.

According to sTeFaN on superherohype.com the September issue of the U.K. magazine Empire featured a massive 2-page picture of the new Batman. It was an awesome picture of him falling/descending inside a large building, showcasing an incredible wing/cape span. In the article Christian bale says "When I play Batman I think of him as a creature."

Cleric Ryan reported that there is also a nice little article about a special showing of a few scenes of the new Batman Begins movie in the latest issue of the Wizard Mag. And from the response of the crowd the movie is really shaping up to be great, the audience gasped at the first sight of The Scarecrow, and a few actions scenes that had the audience wanting more. It also showed Bruce (Christian Bale) was training fighting Henri Ducard on a sheet of ice. All in all the article was very informing and the audience gave the movie a standing ovation when the scenes were over.
