Herzog hails Bale

German director Werner Herzog has hailed Christian Bale one of the greatest actors of his time. The pair worked together on prisoner-of-war thriller Rescue Dawn, but the 63-year-old film-maker insists he spotted Bale's prodigious talent long before they met on set. Herzog says, "I find him one of the greatest talents of his generation. "We made up our own minds long before he did Batman." In the film, based on true events, Bale's character gets shot down over Laos during the Vietnam War and must hatch an escape plan when he is captured and tortured

Bob Dylan movie "I'm not there" shot in Romania
The following cast is the dream of every director and eventually filmgoer: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Richard Gere, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Colin Farrell. They will all be in Romania this summer, teamed up by director Todd Haynes, on an unconventional biopic on musician Bob Dylan. The film, authorized by the singer himself is entitled “I’m Not There” follows six characters, each embodying a different aspect of Dylan’s life story and music. It’s the first biographical feature project to secure the approval of the pop culture icon. The actors are not portraying a realistic Bob; instead, they play people who represent various elements of the singer’s character. Shooting is due to start in Romania this summer.

The German version of How's Moving Castle - Das wandelnde Schloss has been released on DVD on February 27th. In case you want to get the DVD to listen to Christian's voice - don't bother to get it. Both the standard and the deluxe version of this DVD only feature the German and Japanese language version.
Finally The New World has been released in Germany on March 2nd. Go and check it out - preferably the English language version.
Tonight is Oscar Night - let's hope that one of the nominated movies (Batman Begins, The New World, Howl's Moving Castle) is going to win an Academy Award. Good luck!
