Giorgio Armani wardrobes Christian Bale exclusively for role as Bruce Wayne
(NEW YORK) Giorgio Armani has added another to notch to a stellar lineup of film collaborations. He will wardrobe Christian Bale for his role as Bruce Wayne in director Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated action drama, The Dark Knight.
The Warner Brothers movie, which premieres in New York on July 15, also stars Heath Ledger in his final role before his untimely death.
For the production, Armani partnered with acclaimed costume designer Lindy Hemming, who won an Academy Award for her costume designs for Topsy-Turvy. "As a Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure client, Bruce Wayne is demonstrating his status as a discriminating and sophisticated connoisseur of fine fashion, while also showing he has individual taste," said Armani. "It is also fitting that I should be dressing a superhero this year, as I am pleased to have chaired the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, last May."
As Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne, Bale wears Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure throughout the film. A still from the movie featuring Wayne in a suit from this collection is the visual for a world-wide Armani advertising campaign coinciding with the release. Wayne's wardrobe includes single-breasted, three-button suits, single-breasted tuxedos and black wool coats, each featuring the traditional customized owner's label--in this case, Giorgio Armani for Bruce Wayne.
Said Hemming, "For the character Bruce Wayne, Chris Nolan and I wanted an expensively elegant tailored look to contrast with his Batman persona. We felt that the Giorgio Armani brand was emblematic of the contemporary classic look that I hoped to create. I think Christian looks edgy and cool, and I feel that their tailoring beautifully realized our vision."

Armani's Bale Out
When you see Christian Bale onscreen this summer in very anticipated The Dark Knight, he’ll be outfitted head-to-toe in Giorgio Armani.
The Italian designer and industry-acclaimed costume designer Lindy Hemming came together to have Giorgio Armani Hand Made-To-Measure suits appear on Bale’s Bruce Wayne throughout the film. Says the perpetually-tanned Armani to FWD, “As a Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure client, Bruce Wayne is demonstrating his status as a discriminating and sophisticated connoisseur of fine fashion, while also showing he has individual taste,” said Armani. “It is also fitting that I should be dressing a superhero this year, as I am pleased to have chaired the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, last May.”
A brand ad campaign featuring Bale in one of the suits will launch at the same time as The Dark Knight promotions. The Giorgio Armani for Bruce Wayne collection includes black wool coats, single-breasted suits, three-button suits and tuxedos.
Hemming adds, “For the character Bruce Wayne, Chris Nolan and I wanted an expensively elegant tailored look to contrast with his Batman persona. We felt that the Giorgio Armani brand was emblematic of the contemporary classic look that I hoped to create. I think Christian looks edgy and cool, and I feel that their tailoring beautifully realized our vision.”
Now we have three good reasons to see this flick: The late Heath Ledger as the Joker, Christian Bale in tight superhero outfits and bespoke Giorgio Armani.

Suited and saluted

BOURNEMOUTH'S Batman Christian Bale, England manager Fabio Capello and Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman have been named three of the most stylish men of 2008.
Marks and Spencer boss Stuart Rose, US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and Prince Michael of Kent are also in the top 10 published by lifestyle magazine Esquire.
Others include a Sotheby's auctioneer, an Italian industrialist, a Chicago rapper and an environmentalist.
Esquire fashion director Catherine Hayward said: "Powerful men know how to dress themselves and often stick to a uniform."
That's certainly true of American Psycho star Christian Bale, who grew up in Bournemouth and was still at Bournemouth School when he landed his breakthrough role, at the age of 13, in Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Empire of the Sun.
The youngest of four children, Christian's acting career took off at just eight years old when he appeared in a Lenor commercial. He followed that by playing a rock star in a commercial for the Pac-Man cereal and made his stage debut in The Nerd opposite Rowan Atkinson.
Once his film career took off in the wake of Empire of the Sun his father resigned his job as a commercial pilot to manage Christian's career.
Wary of the press from an early age - he once claimed to have been picked on at school following Empire of the Sun - Christian has maintained a smart, polite, if distant public image.
"Each of the men in our list has given a teasing twist to traditional tailoring and made the look entirely their own," says Catherine Hayward.

Christian on the "new best dressed" list.
A journalist with a penchant for Y-fronts, an Italian industrialist who delights in sporting striped chef's trousers, a Sotheby's auctioneer and a sexagenarian member of the Royal Family. The sartorial champions of 2008 have been revealed – and they're not quite who you'd expected.
According to Esquire magazine, the top-10 best-dressed men of the year include not only the Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman and Prince Michael of Kent but also Tobias Meyer, a man known in certain circles as auctioneer's "James Bond", and Lapo Elkann, the Fiat heir and the proud model of a variety of ensembles involving a blue beanie hat, a beige linen jacket and a pair of rather gaudy coloured trousers.
*Christian Bale, Hollywood actor: "Intense, intelligent, insane... His clothes aren't bad either."

Bale's narrow Batman escape
Batman star Christian Bale narrowly avoided a grisly death on the set of the new superhero movie, when a plunging helicopter missed him by just feet.
The actor didn't realise how close he had come to being decapitated on location at Chicago's Sears Tower - America's tallest building - until he noticed the shocked expressions on the faces of crewmembers.
He tells Details magazine, "I've been in situations where things could have gone very wrong. I saw a number of very anxious faces on the Dark Knight when a helicopter came incredibly close to me. I was standing on the corner of the Sears Tower, on the outside 110 stories up. I felt quite oblivious to it. I was looking at the face of the pilot and just hanging there, not fully aware that the blades were actually just feet away from my head."

Batman - Bale's financial woes
Batman star Christian Bale faced financial ruin just five years ago, when he was so deep in debt his house was repossessed.
Despite starring roles in American Pyscho in 2000 and Reign
of Fire in 2002, the former child star reveals that in 2003 he wasn't earning
enough money through acting to support himself and his wife Sibi Blazic.
He was rescued by his pay cheques for 2004's the MAChinist and Batman Begins
the following year, which helped lift him out of near-poverty and turn him
into one of Hollywood's biggest earners.
And Brit Bale insists he isn't alone in the movie industry, despite the misconception
that all actors are multi-millionaires.
He tells Details magazine, "I don't believe that there's an actor alive who hasn't been in that position - and in that position many years after people recognise you and have a very wrong impression of what they imagine your life to be like."
When asked about his own encounter with financial ruin, Bale, reveals, "I know absolutely when it was. I'm just trying to decide how comfortable I am talking about it. "(It's) only going back five years. Absolutely, yeah. House repossession - all that."
Bale adds that he accepted film roles, while broke, just to clear himself of debt - including one particular movie that he doesn't name: "I won't tell what it was, but it was following closely on the heels of (the repossession). It ended up that I found a great many experiences from it - but the motivation was completely keeping the head above water."

Batsuit literally left Bale breathless
By Ani
The Batsuit actor Christian Bale wore in the new Batman movie left him breathless - literally.
The star reveals that the new figure-hugging attire made him claustrophobic.
"I was just thinking, 'This isn't going to work. I'm claustrophobic, I can't breathe, I'm getting a headache already and this is all going to go very badly'" The Sun quoted him, as saying.
"I just said to myself, 'Breathe deeply for a few minutes. Try this out. Don't run around yelling... trying to pull the whole thing off'. I wasn't going to get it off by myself. It takes three people."
He was also all praise for his late co-star Heath Ledger, who plays The Joker in the movie.
"He was incredibly intense in his performance, but incredibly mellow and laid-back."

Christian Bale - Bale's interviews lies blur fact + fiction
Batman Christian Bale is such a fantastic liar in interviews he can no longer be confident he's telling the truth.
The super-private actor refuses to answer questions about his life away from the movies and so he often makes things up to avoid difficult interviews.
He explains, "I'm an actor, I'm not a politician. I always kick myself when I talk too much about family, or personal things."
But he's been doing this for so long he admits the lines between fact and fiction are often a little blurred - especially when it comes to movies he may have been in. Bale tells Details magazine, "To be honest, it happens a lot. There are so many things which, even knowing that it was in a movie, I still feel like I've been through. "And then I have to really rack my brain to work out, 'Have I actually been through that in my life?' There are occasions when I've pretended to be in a firefight, and then there are people who have really been in a firefight. "Clearly it's absolutely ridiculous, and even disrespectful, to suggest that I understand what that is. And it deserves a very hard smack across the face for any actor to ever suggest that they understand. But the power of delusion is incredibly strong."

Batman to appear in milk ads
The U.S. comic-book hero Batman will soon be seen sporting the iconic milk mustache in "Body by Milk" ads, the Milk Processor Education Program said.
This marks the second time the Caped Crusader will appear in the ad campaign.
Christian Bale plays Batman in "The Dark Knight," due in U.S. theaters July 18. The new Batman milk ads are to debut this weekend.
The ad copy reads: "Others reload. Batman refuels. Research suggests that milk's unique mix of nutrients can help athletes recover after exercise. And its protein can help build muscle. So train hard and drink lowfat or fat free milk, because the Batmobile isn't the only thing that needs to refuel."
The Body by Milk Campaign and DC Comics said they are holding a Batman Refuels Sweepstakes, the winner of which will have his or her likeness drawn into a Batman comic book.
More information about the contest can be found at http://www.bodybymilk.com.

Bale on the cover of Details June/July issue
Christian Bale is on the cover of the June/July issue of DETAILS, on stands nationwide on June 3. He talks about Heath Ledger, panic over the bat suit, and self-destructing.
Click on the picture for a large version
On Heath Ledger: "He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back. Certainly there was this great anarchistic streak to it-just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned the Joker before…Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him-and expected to do so. And I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work."

Bale 'to make three Terminators'
BBC News by Mark Savage
Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the Terminator franchise, its producers have revealed. The Welsh-born star, who is soon to be seen in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, has already started shooting the first of those films, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. "He's really an actor's actor, so we're very proud," said Victor Kubicek of film company Halcyon. Charlie's Angels director McG is directing the new film, which is due to be released on 22 May 2009.
"Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky," Kubicek told the BBC at the Cannes Film Festival. "But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond." Luckily, said Kubicek's business partner Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."

Christian Bale and Brandon Routh Sign for 'Justice League!!! (?????)
Cinematical.com, posted by Erik Davis
Holy "Where the hell did this one come from" Batman! In a last ditch effort to win back fans, Warner Bros. has apparently convinced both Christian Bale and Brandon Routh to reprise the roles of Batman and Superman for their upcoming live-action Justice League of America film (currently titled Justice League Mortal). A press release just sent to Cinematical comes with this hilarious quote from a studio rep: "Brandon wasn't too hard to convince; he half-jokingly told us he's dreamt about this opportunity every night for the past several months."
Both men have signed a three-picture deal, which means Warners has plans to extend Justice League beyond the initial film, due out in 2009. Currently, there's no word on whether Armie Hammer (the actor supposed to play Batman) will still appear in some capacity, be it as a younger version of Batman or as a random extra in a background shot. On why he ultimately decided to take the role when there's a good chance it could confuse fans and screw up Nolan's franchise, Bale said, "I don't see me taking on this role getting in the way of anything, aside from someone else's paycheck. The script is awesome. Batman is awesome. Brendon and I look forward to taking this one to the next level."
Sounds like the studio is finally getting serious about this film, bringing on two actors with established fanbases -- guys they know will bolster the flick's box office. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, like what happens to Bryan Singer's The Man of Steel now and will Chris Nolan even go ahead with a third Batman film with Bale doing JLA? Well, one thing is for sure: This whole project just got a lot more interesting ...

The Dark Knight
2008 started with the tragic loss of Heath Ledger.
Actor Heath Ledger was found dead at a Manhattan apartment Tuesday afternoon in what appeared to be a possible drug-related death; he was 28. The actor was discovered in one of the SoHo apartment's bedrooms at 3:31 p.m., when a masseuse arrived for a scheduled appointment and the residence's housekeeper went to inform the actor of the masseuse's arrival. He was found unconscious and unresponsive; the New York Times stated that the apartment in question belonged to actress Mary-Kate Olsen, who was not present and was believed to be out of state. An initial police report also cited by the New York Times said that foul play was not suspected and that pills had been found near Ledger's body. A native of Australia, Ledger shot to fame as a teen heartthrob in 10 Things I Hate About You before graduating to more adult roles, most notably his Oscar-nominated turn in Brokeback Mountain. Engaged at one time to Brokeback co-star Michelle Williams, the two had a daughter but had split in recent months. Earlier this year, Ledger wrapped filming on the Batman film The Dark Knight, in which he played The Joker; the film is currently set for release this summer. Further details of the actor's death were not available at press time.
